MITCHELL SCHOOL DISTRICT VOCAL MUSIC STAFF

Originally from Papillion, NE, Nic Caberos is proud to call Mitchell his new home. At MSD, Mr. Caberos oversees all Kernel Choirs, music directs the Fall Musical, directs the award-winning "Friend de Coup", assists with middle school show choir, and eats copious amounts of Taco Bell. 

Anna Heeren is in her 11th year of teaching. She teaches 6th grade general music, 8th grade guitar, and middle school choir. She also directs Maximum Velocity show choir.  She and her husband Micah and have four children Ellis (9), Sawyer (7), Israel (5), and Harvest (1).  In the summer, Mrs. Heeren enjoys taking care of her chickens and gardening.

Kim Bruguier is in her 18th  year as a music educator. Mrs.Bruguier teaches elementary general music, beginning band, and choir at LB Williams Elementary in Mitchell. She also directs the middle school Exclamation show choir, and is the director and choreographer for the MHS Colorguard. 

She and her husband Lee have two children, Max and Amelia. In her free time she enjoys camping and traveling. 

Hailing from Madison, SD, Cade Bruna is a proud South Dakota State University alum. Cade Bruna is most proud of their voice and opera training, which has been a significant part of their journey. He also finds family connection and loyalty to be of the most importance. As the music teacher at Longfellow Elementary and for two Hutterite colonies, they bring their passion for music to diverse communities. Their vibrant personality shines through in their appreciation for humor and fun, making every moment a little brighter. Whether belting Celine Dion at home or sharing a laugh with students, Cade Bruna brings a unique blend of passion and joy to everything they do.

Hannah Wehlander is in her 3rd year of teaching music and 5th Grade Band at Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary. Wehlander also directs the frontline of the MHS Marching Band and is director of the Middle School Musical. In December of 2021, Hannah graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University with a Bachelors degree in music education. Wehlander recently was elected onto the board of directors for SDMEA as the Social Media Coordinator. In her spare time, Hannah enjoys playing in the Mitchell Municipal Band, singing with the DWU community choir, and performing at the Area Community Theatre here in Mitchell. 

Joel Van Peursem is in his fourth year at Mitchell School District. He is the director of all middle school bands, assists with the high school marching band, directs the high school fall musical pit, and is the director of Severe Tire Damage (FDC's pit band). In his free time, he loves to spend time with his wife Kaitlyn and their daughter CeCe!

Stephen "Big Cheese" Todd has been playing trumpet professionally since 1994. He is widely regarded as the best counter-to-8 in the country. One time Big Cheese was seen at his local McDonald's, consuming greatness and excellence. Stephen is nice.
